Florence breathes history with every cobblestone street and majestic palazzo. Nestled within this cultural tapestry is This Time Tomorrow, a residence that beckons travellers with promises of timeless Italian charm and modern comfort. My recent stay at this exquisite venue was nothing short of enchanting. It offered a blend of history and contemporary luxury, leaving an indelible mark on my travel experience.
A Storied Past
Dating back to the 19th century, This Time Tomorrow originally served as a residence for Florentine nobility. Its architecture, a blend of Neoclassical styles, is a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage tucked by Piazza Liberta and the Viale around Florence, designed by Giuseppe Poggi. Sweeping and majestic, this historic building has been completely renovated into eight luxury residences with rooms playfully named by time – 1 PM, 2 PM,… The moment I stepped through its intricately carved wooden front doors, I was transported to a bygone era, where every corner seemed to whisper tales of the artistic revolution that defined Florence as it became part of a united Italy. Their slogan is “Know the story. Live a chapter”, and here you can stay and enjoy a genuine local feel of peace away from the crowds, yet within easy reach of all the city attractions.
Rooms Steeped in Elegance
My accommodation, 2 PM, epitomised the perfect fusion of history and modernity. The residence is vast, adorned with opulent period furnishings that maintain a cosy ambience—a home-from-home feel. From the ornate canopy bed to the original frescoes adorning the ceiling, every detail exuded a sense of refinement and heritage, from cotton bed sheets to plush furnishing, large 2x2m beds, and artwork handpicked by the owner, Pierre Ferland.
The complete working kitchen was a blessing after hours of walking the cobbled streets of Florence in the mid-June heat. So was the Welcome Basket, which contained quality, handpicked products from small producers, including wine, pasta, sauces, cheese, and salami in the fridge. The coffee is exceptional from Florence, and the tea is from Via del Te – all from Tuscany.
While upstairs, the panoramic view over the city’s rooftops from my private terrace was breathtaking, especially at sunset, when the sun casts a golden hue over the city as it dipped below the horizon.
It’s ideal for Florence to stay as a family or in a group. All residences have private terraces and fully equipped kitchens, and the palace covers 110 to 120 square metres. And the little details matter – from the soundproofing and mosquito nets on windows to having water replenished daily and daily cleaning service. It’s like staying at a members club without the annual fees. A communal rooftop terrace with views of the city and Fiesole is ideal for a sunset Spritz.
Curated Experiences
Situated just outside the old city walls in a residential area, This Time Tomorrow in Florence is perfectly positioned to explore the city’s myriad attractions. It’s only a 15-minute walk from the historic centre—the Duomo and all the galleries like the Uffizi—and 10 minutes to the Accademia to see the David.
The residence’s knowledgeable staff curated personalised itineraries that allowed me to explore the city beyond its iconic landmarks with insider insights that enriched my understanding of their historical and artistic significance. It truly sets This Time Tomorrow apart – its commitment to curating experiences that enrich the soul – led by seasoned hotelier Eric Veroliemeulen, who will create a bespoke itinerary that meets all your passions. From attending private art exhibitions featuring Florentine artists to wine tasting, hat making, and sculpture maker visits to venues/palaces unavailable to the general public.
When you book, Eric will send you a questionnaire asking your interests in what to see and explore in Florence. Based on your answers, he will design a customised itinerary for guests – it’s all part of the service. Off-menu packages are tailored-made with the best suppliers to provide an unforgettable and authentic Italian experience – from music and operas to dining and sagras, Eric, with Assistant Curator Neri, handpicks special occasions for clients, unlike in regular hotels where a concierge simply suggests venue ideas upon request. It’s their way of fostering a deeper connection to Florence’s vibrant artistic community and giving you insider access.
The residence also offers bespoke culinary experiences. A private chef can come to your residence to prepare traditional Tuscan dishes. All with fine wines highlighting the region’s gastronomic prowess.
Florence’s Enduring Allure
